• Shell / tortoise shell / pearl jewelry

Pearls correspond to the human ideal of beauty.

The Greeks believed that pearls were dew from the moon, for the Romans they were the fruits of Venus, the goddess of love. They are associated with purity, happiness, wealth and beauty.

Molluscs (clams and snails) in salt and fresh water can produce pearls out of a protective reaction. Only around four percent of a pearl harvest corresponds to the ideal round shape. Most pearls have so-called "baroque" shapes: elongated, flat, knotted, teardrop-shaped, sometimes hollow or wart-like attached to the shell of the shell.
